Universal Principles of Design By William Lidwell, Kritina Holden, Jill Butler was an excellent read. This is a great book to reference when a quick summary of a design principle is needed. Each principle is divided into two-page spreads. The verso pages provide one page summaries. The recto pages provide illustrations, pictures, and examples about the principle.
