Graphic Design History: A Critical Guide by Johanna Drucker and Emily McVarish describes the significance of graphic design from Stone Age artists to digital designers in the 21st century. The importance of graphic design, and its connection with culture are shown through numerous examples and descriptions of significant works in each of the periods. At the end of each section there are interesting lists highlighting some of the current events of the world at that time (i.e. year 1284 - eyeglasses produced in Florence).
